As we suggested, when Lil Wayne dropped the bomb he has signed a deal with Jay Z , he was not referring to a recording contract. The blogosphere misinterpreted his words as most believed Weezy is now a Roc Nation signee, but it turns out he was speaking about his newly announced co-ownership of TIDAL.
The other night, Wayne sent his fans into a frenzy after he made a huge announcement at KMEL Summer Jam 2015. During his set, he told the crowd, “I just signed a deal with my motherf***ing idol Jay Z,” which was followed by a storm of ovations and a Twitter flood.
Since Weezy rarely reaches out to news outlets by himself, his manager, Cortez Bryant, caught up with Billboard and clarified the comments for him. He basically confirmed the most plausible version –the rapper was speaking about his TIDAL deal.
“ The Internet and blogs took his wordsbout of context,” Bryant told Billboard. “When Wayne was speaking about the partnershipbwith Jay Z, he was speaking about his new deal as an artist owner with Tidal.”
Wayne announced the partnership earlier this month and celebrated it by releasing his first single from Free Weezy Album, “Glory,” via TIDAL. In the meantime, his legal war with Cash Money Records and the issues surrounding the liberation of Tha Carter V remain pending.
