According to Premium Times, a fully-loaded petrol tanker crashed on Saturday when the driver lost control on the hilly Dabai junction at Dabi, Kebbi state which caused the bus to swerve, fall and explode.


It was gathered that at least five people were killed while another six sustained injuries.

The tanker was reportedly heading to Mahuta in Kebbi when it crashed and its explosion left 12 houses and some vehicles parked by the roadside destroyed.

A popular fresh fruit market is located at the the Dabai-Suru and Dabai- Mahuta road junctions.

One of the early visitors at the scene was Kebbi Deputy Governor, Samaila Yombe, who hails from Dabai.

He sympathized with relatives of the victims and also the Emir of Zuru, Sani Sami, and Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Ibrahim Rumu.

The deputy governor promised to pay the medical bills of victims in hospital.

The deputy added that Emergency Management Agency were told to provide relief materials to victims who lost shops, household property, livestock and food crops to the explosion.

Resident of the area, El-Yakub Dabai, who weighed in on the situation said the accident was unfortunate and called on the responsible organisations to train the drivers how to manipulate tricky terrain.

In a related development, 12 undergraduates of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ago – Iwoye, have reportedly lost their lives after a container fell on a passenger bus they were traveling in.

The fatal accident occurred along the Sagamu stretch of the Lagos/Benin expressway, on Friday, June 26 when the truck marked (LAGOS) BDG 779 X, carrying the container drove against traffic and rammed into a Toyota Haiace passenger bus bearing (Lagos) XV 311 MUS, dropping the container atop of the roof of the bus, killing 12 occupants, including the driver.
