Nigeria’s comedy pioneer and foremost entertainer, Atunyota Alleluya Akporobomerere popularly called Ali Baba is 50 today, June 24, 2015.
Born in Warri, Delta State, Ali Baba has achieved widespread fame in the industry. He was born on June 24, 1965 into a royal family in Agbarha Otor in what is today in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Armed with a degree he bagged from the institution known today as the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma in 1990, Ali Baba relocated to Lagos, having discovered his comic talent in his 3rd year in university.
Unknown to him, he would become the pathfinder of modern day comedy in the 90s along with his late friend, Mohammed Danjuma about whom he usually refers long after the latter’s demise.
He began his professional career by anchoring corporate events, appearing on television shows with the likes of Patrick Doyle, Charly Boy and Danladi Bako while also making cameo appearances on radio shows with Bisi Olatilo, Sani Irabor and Mani Onumonmu among others.
Today, the entire Nigerian entertainment industry celebrates Ali Baba’s ‘Golden Jubliee’.
