The former Governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption.


According to Premium Times, the former Borno state governor willing turned himself in on Wednesday afternoon.

The EFCC spokesperson , Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Sheriff was currently being held by the agency.

On April 23, the commission had moved to declare Sheriff wanted when he failed to appear for
questioning

Though the specific allegations against the former governor are not clear now, sources say it is connection to the alleged mismanagement ofnN300bn his government received from the FederalbAccount between 2003 and 2011. The investigation began in 2012.

Ali Modu Sheriff was elected governor of Borno State on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2003. He was the first governor in the state to win the seat two consecutive times Prior to becoming the governor, he was a senator between 1999 and 2003 on the ticket ANPP
