Two Killed As Boko Haram Attacks Polling Stations In Gombe – Vanguard

At least two people were killed in a suspected Boko Haram attack on polling stations in northeast Nigeria on Saturday, residents and an election official told AFP.
The attacks happened in the villages of Birin Bolawa and Birin Fulani in the Nafada district of Gombenstate, which has been repeatedly targeted by the Islamists.
An election official, who requested anonymity, said:
“We could hear the gunmen shouting, ‘Didn’t we warn you about staying away from (the) election?’”

A bomb went off at the Women Training Center in Enugu this morning March 28th.
The state police Commissioner confirmed the incident and said anti-bomb squad were immediately invited to the scene and were able to 
successfully detonate a second explosive found in the premises.

Oyedepo’s Church, Winners Chapel Burnt Down In Kaduna Over Purported Support For Jonathan

A branch of the Living Faith Church, popularly called the Winners Chapel, in Giwa, headquarters of Giwa 
Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been set ablaze.
The church, founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, was reportedly set ablaze by two unidentified arsonists.
During the incident that happened on March 20,.2015 at about 2:30pm, nothing was saved from the church.
The burning of the church came a few months after the reported endorsement of President Goodluck 
Jonathan by Oyedepo.
A terse statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the President of Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nijeria (Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Christians), General Ishaku Ahmed Dikko (rtd), and the Director of National Issues of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Sunny Oibe, entitled:
 “Presidential Elections 2015: Signs of what to expect,” called on security agencies to act fast to avoid violence in the area.
According to Dikko and Oibe, the Christians in the North, particularly the Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri speaking Christians, who are indigenous in these states and live within and among their kith and kin, “are in serious jeopardy”.
The statement reads in full: “Giwa is the Headquarters of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. On Friday, 20 March, 2015 at about 2:30 pm, two (2) unknown hoodlums on a motorcycle drove into the premises of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) and set it ablaze.
“The Church was razed to the ground and nothing was saved from the Church including the building.
This action surprised the Christian Community especially the Church members, as there was no tension or any sign of it between Christians and Muslims in the town.
“It is, however, a known fact that the people of the Local Government have not been friendly with the Christian Community even though over 90 percent of them are of the same Huasa-Fulani indigenes.
“The incident actually became more worrisome when no effort was made by a passersby to assist in putting out the fire. In fact, it was a Fulani herdsman that saw the fire and reported to the Police Station.
 Only one Policeman and a Christian volunteer that ran to the scene and attempted to put out the fire but of course could not achieve anything.
“This situation and the circumstances surrounding 
the incidence are a cause of serious concern. If this can happen more than a week to the Presidential Elections, what shall we expect during or after the elections?

Within the span of about 18 years from 1985 to the turn of the century Muhammadu Buhari transformed from a military dictator to a democracy enthusiast.
He has traced his conversion to the implosion of the former Soviet Union.
Since his conversion he has consistently not looked back and today, the story of Buhari is that of folklore that is generating enthusiasm across the land.
It is not surprising that he has a legion of antagonists arising from from his record as a former military ruler, but his band of followers extend beyond ethnic and religious boundaries.
In a country where political followership is largely driven by ethnic and religious considerations, boasting of a support base that shattered all known primordial barriers is no mean feat.
But that is not to his credit alone, considering his membership of the All Progressives Party, APC—a party with a broader national spread.
Even though some of his policies as Head of State, were misconstrued, Buhari has the uncommon integrity for honesty among Nigeria’s politicians.
Perhaps, that accounts for why his reputation soared among the electorate even after three consecutive defeats.
The near impeccable aura surrounding his personality is considered an addition to the reasons why the race for the first time, has become too close to call.
His military vocation, ensured that Buhari like his peers in that era, occupied prominent leadership positions at early stages of his life.
Buhari, who was born in 1947 was at different times, governor of North-East State, Federal Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, Head of State, and Chairman Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund. These are in addition to various command positions he held in the military.
Of all the positions he held in his service to Nigeria, his tenure as Head of State sometimes come under criticisms from those, who thought was too extreme in the implementation of his policies.
In spite of such criticisms, many Nigerians regard his stern and austere disposition as an asset in the quest to enthrone purposeful leadership in the country.
It is repeatedly said that not even his political enemies have been able to find any reason to trace any allegation of corruption to him despite his high level exposure to what many would describe as juicy government offices.
Buhari’s present aspiration is his fourth run since 2003 and it looks his most promising outing.

Nick Jonas Totally Gets Zayn Malik's Decision to Leave One Direction: It Was ''Time to Close a Chapter''

As a member of a group turned solo artist, Nick Jonas gets what Zayn Malik is going through.
"It's always tough," the "Jealous" singer told E! News at the 2015 Kids' Choice Awards press day 
Thursday when asked about Zayn's decision to leave One Direction after five years of mega- success. "You know, there's never an easy time to 
make a decision like that. I commend him for doing what he feels is right for him and you got to stay true to yourself."
Nick, of course, went through a high-profile split himself--and with his own flesh and blood, no less!--when the Jonas Brothers went their separate artistic ways back in October 2013.
Joe and Kevin by his side, Nick told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts at the time:
"In a nutshell, I said, 'Look, I feel like we've had some complications within the group for a long time without addressing them. I think this train will fall off the tracks without really getting real about some of the concerns and some of the limitations that we may feel as individuals in the group.'
It was a tough conversation...It was the first time we really had that real conversation. It was a few days of working through it."
One Direction, of course, has vowed to carry on (for now, anyway) without Zayn, but the 22-year-old's official statement reflected the fact that his own exit had been a work in progress for a while.
"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined," he stated Wednesday.
"But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologize to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."
While Nick didn't leave his band to take a step back from the spotlight, he presumably agonized over his own choice to initiate the breakup talk at the time.
"I feel for the One Direction fans and I hope they're doing OK," he told E! News today, "but you know, it's one of those things, that sometimes it's just time to close a chapter."
And you never know what sort of chapters will be written next! Next up for Nick: hosting the 2015 Kids' Choice Awards this Saturday.

It turns out the are-they-or-aren't-they couple once again suggested that they are after being spotted partying at the Red Bull Guest House in Miami alongside fellow celeb pals Diddy and Cassie.
A source tells E! News the foursome came in together and first went through the Public School gifting suite and were gifted a capsule collection of goodies (jealous!). Afterwards, French and Khloé went outside hand-in-hand to sit at the cabana by the pool together.
"They were acting very much as a couple," the insider tells E! News. "French is all about Khloé and can't keep his eyes off of her," adding, "Khloé looks really great and fit. They are all enjoying their night so far!"
Along with the good company, the group along with others in the crowd danced to the tunes of DJ Guy Gerber.
The duo have been sparking speculation of a reconciliation for some time now after being seen hanging out together in recent months.
Koko and sister Kylie Jenner were recently spotted out on the town to support Tyga and French Montana at a concert in Inglewood.
 The E! reality stars went to watch Chris Brown and Trey Songz serenade a sold-out crowd at The Forum and shared many a selfie during the show.
Their outing came on the heels of reports that Khloé joined the rapper for a beachy getaway in Key West, Fla, where E! News learned that the group may have also ventured off to a resort on the island of Sunset Key, which is only accessible by ferry from Key West.

Having impressed during a loan spell at Werder Bremen, De Bruyne's return to Chelsea coincided with the start of Mourinho's second stint at Stamford Bridge but the 23-year-old was unable to secure a regular first-team place and was offloaded to Wolfsburg during last season's January transfer window.
De Bruyne, who has been linked with a summer move to Manchester City, has scored nine goals and registered 16 assists in the Bundesliga this 
term, and Hazard suggests his compatriot is thriving under less pressure in Germany.
"Chelsea would have been stronger if we kept De Bruyne, he is a great player," Hazard told L'Equipe .

Hajia Aisha Buhari, the wife of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, expressed gratitude to Bola Tinubu for his support, which 
brought Muhammadu Buhari’s 10-year presidential quest to near actualisation.
She shared her opinion on March 18 during the town hall meeting of the Lagos Central senatorial district hosted by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Vanguard reports.
General Buhari’s spouse also said that Goodluck Jonathan’s time in the office was coming to and end.
Mrs Tinubu, wife of the All Progressives Congress national leader, on her part, accused the Peoples Democratic Party of building castles in the air with economic gains that did not distil to the populace.
Mrs Buhari characterized the upcoming elections as a unique contest for her spouse, after 3 previous runs.
“My husband, General Muhammadu Buhari has been contesting presidential elections for over a decade now, but this particular election is unique because our leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu jettisoned his personal interest for the sake of Nigeria.”
Senator Oluremi Tinubu commented on the current situation, saying that the economy is weakening because of over-dependence on oil and excessive importation.
“Although the Nigerian economy is projected as the largest in Africa, this has not translated into visible wealth per household, and there is a progressive failure in Nigeria under the watch of the ruling PDP.
“As elections draw close, I urge us to be resolute in the choice of our leaders. The future is not about me, but it is about our children and the legacies we want to bequeath to them. I invite you to join me and our party, the All Progressives Congress to work for a better Nigeria.”
Bola Tinubu’s name was involved in a widely publicised controversy in connection with the upcoming elections. The ruling party alleged that the former Lagos state governor was plotting to become Nigeria’s president through the “back door”
. The APC, however, called the claims “sickening and outlandish”.

In a statement released by his media office today obtained by Daily Trust , Atiku said that the demands of today’s cannot afford him the luxury of a vacation from politics.
He said: “You know, it’s funny how some people put politics and vacation in the same sentence. Let me assure you: politics is a serious business, it is hard work, and for me at least, it is more than a full time job. I really don’t know how you can seriously think of taking a vacation, in a country like ours, with the politics we have.
“I did that when we built the great assemblage of the finest men and women under the umbrella of the PDP to get rid of the generals; I did that when I left and returned to the PDP, and I did that when I helped to turn the APC into a serious opposition party.
“When I toured our country, and listened to the hopes, fears, and expectations of Nigerians from all walks of life, I said the APC is the final bus stop, and that it is the end of the line. Because it is, for me.”
“So some say I’m a PDP man to the core. I’m asking you, what does this even mean? what is the PDP?” he asked.
“You know where I stand: I want a competitive democracy, true federalism, a government that creates conditions for people and business to thrive, and keeps out of business and people’s lives, and I want a country that is united and proud of its diversity,” he noted.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday Sworn In eight new ministers, recently confirmed by the 
upper chamber of the country’s House of Assembly.
Punch reported that the inauguration was carriedout before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in the Aso Rock villa, Abuja.
President Jonathan assigned the various portfolios to newly sworn in ministers as follows: Prof. Nicholas Ada (Minister for State, Foreign Affairs I); Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (Minister for State, Foreign Affairs II); Senator Patricia Akwashiki (Minister for Information); Col. Augustine Akobundu (retd.) (Minister for State, Defence); Mr. Fidelis Nwankwo (State, Health); Mrs. Hauwa Bappa (State, Niger Delta Affairs); Mr. Kenneth Kobani (State, Industry, Trade and Investment); and Senator Joel Ikeya (Labour and Productivity).
The President reportedly named the Minister of State, Health, Khaliru Alhassan, as the Minister of Health.
Recall that Alhassan has been acting on the portfolio of the Supervising Minister of Health after Prof. Onyebuchi Ckukwu reportedly left office in 2014.
According to Daily Trust, the president also swore in 71-year-old Jona Madugu as a Commissioner of 
the Federal Civil Service Commission representing Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue while Mrs. Abimbola Sule Kudeyi was inaugurated as the Commissioner of the National Population Commission.
President Jonathan, who reminded the new ministers that they were joining the team at an injury time said: “You are coming in at a challenging period.” Mr. President revealed that the civil service was key to the nation’s development and lamented the level of indiscipline currently in the service.
He also noted that the National Population Commission is also a vital key to national planning.
There has been strong criticism and resistance from concerned Nigerians and group over the ministerial list that was reportedly submitted to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The main reason for the criticism of the ministerial list was the inclusion of the former Minister of Defence, Senator Musliu Obanikoro, which made a civil society group, known as All Nigeria Save Democracy Movement (ANSD), kicked against the ministerial nomination of the latter.

Jonathan’s administration and the 
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of 
planning to render card readers 
ineffective on election days through 
the use of jammers.
The party in a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the sinister move was geared towards justifying their fears about the use of the card readers and ultimately to scuttle the 
polls.
It said the PDP has placed an order for 75,000 pieces of the jammers at a cost of $200 per piece, bringing the total cost to $15 million, adding that the jammers will be air freighted to Nigeria next week.
APC said, “We can authoritatively inform Nigerians that the morbid fear of card readers by the Jonathan administration and the PDP has now been translated into concrete action:
They have hired an Israeli, Gyora Berger, to do the dirty job of jamming the card readers.
“To those who might accuse us of crying wolf, they should realise that every alarm we have raised in the past has been true, including that the Jonathan administration was pushing for the postponement of the elections and that they are mortally afraid of the use of PVCs and card readers.”
The party added that the Israeli was hired specifically to develop three prototype card reader jammers, and he has now developed three of such jammers (25 metres, 50 metres and 100 metres range) to be carried in the pockets of trusted PDP stalwarts on election days with a view tobdisabling the card readers within 
the states.
The party said that apart from disabling the card readers, the jammers will also disable all telephones, iPads, etc within 
the states of those carrying them on their persons.
“The plan is to deploy the card jammers to the areas deemed to be the strongholds of the APC, such as the North-west, North-east, North-central and the South-west.
“It is the planned procurement 
of the jammers that has given the confidence to the administration 
and party officials to continuously boast that Buhari will nevernrule Nigeria, and also the reason why a 
chieftain of the PDP boasted last week that the card readers won’t work, thus advising INEC to make alternative arrangements,’’ APC said.
The party said the Israeli, who has agreed to do the dirty job for a desperate Jonathan Administration and the PDP, is an enemy of Nigeria and Nigerians, who does not mind if the nation burns, as long as he has collected his pay for the dirty job for which he has been hired.
It said because the opposition party has become a movement which is being propelled by the people themselves, it is difficult, if not impossible, for the Jonathan Administration and the PDP to succeed in their devilish intentions of rigging, sabotaging or scuttling the forthcoming polls.
’We have consistently said power resides in the people, irrespective of what the government of the day might think.
When the people are determined to vote out any government, no amount of money, evil plots and shenanigans can save that government, as the Jonathan Administration will find out in two weeks,’’ APC said.

Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience 
Jonathan, has said she is not ready to feed her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, in prison.
The President’s wife spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, during the rally of the women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Making a reference to the All 
Progressives Congress, she asked, “What did they forget in Aso rock? If you vote PDP and Jonathan, it would be better for you. If you vote APC, you will go to prison. How can you jail somebody for 300 years? I’m not ready to carry food to my husband inside prison oh!”
She openly admitted that the Office of the First Lady, which she occupies, is illegal. She, however, said there was nothing wrong in a woman supporting her husband in office.
She said, “They said there is no Office of the First Lady. Already, we know that there is no Office of the First Lady but there is wife of the President.
“As (the) wife of the President, if you are good, people will love you. You will have a Non-Governmental Organisation through which you will touch people’s lives. That is why I brought Women for Change Initiative.”
While she was talking, women – both old and young – fought to have their share of the leftover of rice distributed by Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, during the last Christmas festival, packaged in 
small bags.
The women were still struggling over the rice packaged in small bags when attention was diverted to another struggle for buckets presented by Senator Gbemi Saraki in commemoration of the October 16 inauguration of Fayose.
In the struggle, which almost resulted in a stampede, many of the women got injured.
Shoes, headgears, wigs and bags littered the floor while a woman was heard complaining to a friend that she lost her bangle.
Security men had a hectic time controlling the surging women who engaged in a brawl.
Mrs. Jonathan described APC as a poison, saying, “If you drink APC, you will die.” Accusing the party of having to change name several times, she said, “Since my 
 ather was born, they have been around changing from one name to another. Very soon they would answer Ebola. The name can’t change you; it is only performance 
that can change you. If you like change it 100 times.
“Nigerian women shine your eyes, don’t go for analogue, go for digital. PDP is digital, APC is analogue. 
Fayose at the event took a swipe at 
former President Olusegun Obasanjo, 
saying his tacit support for the APC 
presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. 
Muhamadu Buhari (retd.), would get him nowhere.
“After Jonathan, the North can have their own eight years. Whether they like it or not, whether that our baba, you know him, whether he tore his card or not, whether he ate the card or not, Buhari is going nowhere,” he declared.
“Goodluck is our own. He is coming back.
I am carrying the madate of a people who believe in me. If they do elections here 20 times, I will win,” he boasted.
Mrs. Jonathan said it was time for the women to pay back her husband for appointing several women into positions of authority.
“This is the time to say thank you so that he will do more. Those people when they were there, they said we didn’t have brains. Jonathan came and lifted us from where we were lying helplessly.”
She urged the women to collect their 
Permanent Voter Cards and vote 
massively for the president.
“PDP is not a party that tells lies. 
Whatever we promise to do, we do. We are not a propagandist party. Ekiti 
women, your mother is here and I will 
not tell you lies, but the truth.
“Nigerian women shine your eyes o! Vote with what you have seen, who you already know and who has performed. If anyone is telling you change, they are deceiving you.
“These were people that when they were there before Goodluck Jonathan, they did not count you women as anything. But today, PDP has wiped away our tears.
Jonathan has wiped off our tears. He has fulfilled his promise of giving women 35 per cent participation. He gave 16 seats to women out of 42 slots in his cabinet. He is a performer.”
Earlier, over 100 wives of Ekiti monarchs welcomed the President’s wife to the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, where seven of them prayed for her while she knelt down in their midst.
Speaking through the wife of the Ewi, 
Mrs. Abosede Adejugbe, the 
wives of the monarchs appealed to the President’s wife to extend the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme to Ekiti State fully.
She assured her of total support in the coming general election.
The wife of the Ewi also called on six 
other ‘oloris’ in addition to herself to 
pray for Mrs. Jonathan, describing seven as a powerful number.

Vice President, Abubakar Atiku at the 
latter’s home in Abuja.
Jonathan supposedly visited Atiku on Friday, March 13, to convince him to be part of an Interim National Government (ING), according to Sahara Reporters.
The meeting was said to have held in 
Atiku’s living room and continued into the early hours of the next day. 
When reached by Sahara Reporters 
however, the former VP denied that 
Jonathan had discussed the issue of the interim government saying instead that the President attempted to persuade him to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku however stated that he completely refused Jonathan’s invitation. The former VP also reportedly told Sahara Reporters that the President didn’t seem eager to allow the general elections hold on March 28 as scheduled.
Atiku also maintained that he had no 
interest in being part of an Interim 
National Government.
APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu had also earlier alleged that President Jonathan offered him a position in the proposed ING, a claim which former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi says he can provide evidence to prove.

Amid widespread agitation for 
him to quite office, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Monday dismissed speculations that he is underpressure to resign,insisting that such move would be a  disservice to Nigerians.
Jega, who also said he is not under any pressure to resign during a town hall meeting in Abuja, said the electoral body was focused on ensuring that the forthcoming general elections conform to acceptable standards.
While asserting that he has got a job to do “and it would be a disservice to 
Nigerians for me to resign,” he said, “I am not under any pressure. I have absolutely no reason why I should resign because everybody in INEC is focused on the election that we have to conduct for this country.
“There have been all sorts of demands either on my resignation or even my removal but nobody has told me that I have been removed and as far as I am concerned, I have a lot to do and I have to focus on that,” he noted.
Speaking about the issue of the Young Democratic Party, YDP, which has recently been calling on INEC to either reprint ballot papers or postpone the election in order to enable its presidential candidate participate, Jega insisted that he believes the Commission has been fair to the party.
“YDP wanted to be registered as a 
political party but we did not register 
them because we have sufficient legal grounds not to do so.
“So they went to the court to get a 
judgment that they are due to be 
registered and we have already instructed our lawyer to appeal that judgment and the officials of the party went around evidently organising press conferences to say that the court said we should put them on the ballot.

Ghali Na’Abba, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has dumped the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr. Na’Abba sent his resignation letter titled “Notification of Resignation from PDP, each organs and committees”, to the chairman of the PDP Sharada Ward in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Premium Times reports.
In the letter dated March 15, the former lawmaker accused President Goodluck Jonathan of reducing governance to a ridiculous level and splitting the country along ethnic and religious lines.
He also blamed other previous leaders of the PDP, which has ruled Nigeria since 1999, of putting the country in in a bad situation.
Mr. Na’Abba led legislative chamber during Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure as President.
His resignation letter reads in part:
“You are no doubt aware of the abysmal level to which the leadership of our great Country under President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party have reduced governance to, as a result of which our great Party has been losing its sons and daughters including so many of its founding fathers and members by the day.
“All efforts of critical members and fathers of the Party to offer advice remain always unheeded. It pains most of us that majority of the founding fathers that had died like Chief S. M. Afolabi, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Rimi, Chief Solomon Lar, Professor Osammor, Chief S. B. Awoniyi etc all died as a result of their frustration by and with the Party.
“The Country’s and the Party’s leadership have become cabalised to the extent that while Nigerians are aware that they have a President in the person of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, they are at the same time at a loss as to who governs their Country. Both Nigeria and the PDP are left to drift. In the sixteen years the Party has been ruling at the center, the Party’s leadership has failed to lead by example.
“Instead, it has left us with the conventional wisdom that people cannot succeed in life unless they are ruthless and unprincipled. The Party has become characterized by corruption and impunity in the way and manner candidates for elective positions are being selected to the extent that in almost twenty states, crisis has engulfed the Party over the Gubernatorial primaries and the manner other candidates for other elective positions emerged.
“Instead, under the current leadership, Nigeria is suffering from loss of esteem, as we are now most often consigned to the back seat of international relations. Most worrisome is the current anxiety of most Nigerians as the regime wobbles and tumbles toward the oncoming election.
“Critical National Institutions that unify and wield Nigerians together have been dragged into politics, 
contrary to wise counsel and political correctness.
No administration has used religion and ethnicity to divide Nigerians more than the current administration under the leadership of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan. The ultimate test of any leader is looking at what has remained after he is gone.
“The challenge before Nigerians today, in order to secure a new lease of life therefore, is how to get out this inept leadership that has neither allure nor inspiration.
“In its place, Nigerians deserve not just a good President, good governors, and other political office holders, but true and exemplary leaders.
“For the above and many reasons, effective today 15th March 2015, I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, it’s organs including the Board of Trustees and all other committees to which I belong at National and State 
levels.
“I pray that your mind and those of other Patriots would also be illuminated with truth so that you may also act wisely and accordingly. This comes with the renewed assurances of my highest consideration and personal respect.”
He however did not disclose if he was joining any other party, though he said he was being lobbied by other parties to join them. His supporters in Kano are expecting to join the main opposition party, APC just like the governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
It appears defection is in vogue for politicians as they have been moving from party to party. Report had earlier surfaced that Kwankwaso’s aides and other APC members in Kano state had defected to the PDP.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan was scheduled to visit the North-Central state of Nassarawa on Saturday, in continuation of her women mobilisation campaign rallies, but the visit did not see the light of day.
The much advertised visit of Mrs. Jonathan to garner support for the re-election bid of her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, ended abruptly.
Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that her absence at the well mobilised event has caused panic among supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially women and youths, who had converged on City Hall, along Shendam road, Lafia as early as 9.00 a.m.
Party sources said Mrs. Jonathan’s sudden change of plans may be as a result of security reports that 
her convoy might be attacked by persons suspected to be loyalists of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Another 
source added that, “her change of programme was not unconnected with the unfavourable weather 
condition. The weather is not clear; you cannot expect her with her entourage to travel by road. No. 
Definitely, we will reschedule it, we want her here, and so she needs to come, maybe next week.”
The state deputy governor, who also doubles as the state campaign coordinator, Goodluck/Sambo 2015, Honourable Dameshi Luka Barau said he can’t say precisely for now why the first lady’s visit couldn’t hold.
According to him, “this is a women programme, and I am not personally handling it, so I cannot say whether she is coming back or not, probably the organisers of the programme should be in best position to answer that. After this programme, we will meet them to know exactly what happened”.
Meanwhile, some men suspected to be aggrieved youths of the PDP, disrupted the rally of Mrs. Jonathan at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the Edo state capital yesterday.

Bashir Husain, a serving member of the House of Representatives from Kano state, and Hajia Maryma Kofar Mata, the special assistant to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on the Empowerment Programme, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
They were among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state who dumped the party for the PDP, The Guardian reports.
Husain is representing Gwale Federal Constituency, while Kofar Mata was the immediate past state women’s leader of the APC.
According to a statement by the media office of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, made available to journalists yesterday, the APC members decamped following Sambo’s visit to the state.
During his visit to Kano, Sambo had met with several stakeholders, who he urged to reach out to the people and inform them of the achievements of the President Jonathan-led administration and the PDP. This resulted in the defection of the APC members.
Receiving those who defected, the vice president gave them a warm welcome, while stressing that there was enough space in the PDP for anyone interested in joining the party.
“PDP is the party of Nigeria with the most people oriented programmes that has been transforming the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians in the right direction. PDP is Nigeria, and Nigeria is PDP. If you go to every corner and the remotest part of Nigeria, PDP has a system in place ,” he said.
Sambo told the defectors to feel at home and put in their best for the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections, so that the party and the administration would continue to move the country forward.
According to the defectors, they dumped the APC because the PDP and the administration of President Jonathan and Vice President Sambo, have been delivering more and better dividends of democracy to Nigerians through their Transformation Agenda.
They therefore pledged to put in their best to move the party and the country to greater heights.
As the general elections are fast approaching, politicians have been moving from one party to the other. A few days ago there were reports that a prominent member of the PDP in Lagos state and a businessman, Ch ief Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi, is set to dump the party for the APC.

First thing’s first: Before I get all of the hate mail from guys telling me that sometimes women avoid commitment too, let me say that there is a specific reason I am writing this article: I receive message after message after message (after message)… from women, who want to know why it seems like there are no men out there who want a commitment.
Perhaps there are an equal amount of men who are wondering the same thing about women, but from where I’m standing, the balance seems to be pretty skewed. It seems as though women are looking for commitment, and men are avoiding it.
As a man who has lived the single life, and has been in long term relationships, I can tell you from experience that there are many facets of your life that improve when you are with the right woman. In this article I want to lay out some points that will hopefully make you second guess your decision to run when you feel like you’re about to be…*gasp*… monogamous.
You will expand your horizons.
When two different people with two different histories and two different viewpoints come together in a relationship, you can’t help but be 
exposed to new ideas and experiences. You may not typically be interested in the arts, or a night at 
the theater, or a day of rock climbing or yoga – but you will likely be much more open to the new experience if the man or woman you loves wants to share their passion with you.
Her love will make you more confident.
There is something about knowing that the person you love loves you back – that puts an extra pep in 
your step. You’ll know you’ve found the right person when their mere presence in your life makes you 
want to become the best version of yourself that you can, and you will have the confidence to make 
it happen.
You always have someone to talk to.
We all need to vent every once in awhile, even if we don’t like to admit it. Sure, we can talk to friends or 
family, but opening up to the man or woman you love just feels different, especially when you know they will listen and support you unconditionally. Also, you know they will be honest and set you straight when you need it.
Events and traveling become more exciting.
Whether it be a company party or a trip to Europe, knowing you get to experience these things with the person you love will immediately enhance the experience in a way that going by yourself or with a platonic friend just…wouldn’t.
Someone loves you for you .
When we are single and dating, there is often times a pressure to always be our best self, especially when meeting someone new. Now, of course we always want to be learning, improving, and being 
our best when we are in a relationship also, but there is a flexibility and freedom to also just be you and know that someone will love and accept it just the same.
You are motivated to become better.
Sure, the previous point discusses loving someone for who they already are, but that does not give any 
of us an excuse to stop learning or growing as an individual. We should want to do this for ourselves 
regardless of our relationship status, but often times when the right woman enters a man’s life, his 
eyes are opened to things that they were not before.
Perhaps he could be living healthier, being more productive, watching less TV. We all have different triggers which motivate us to change negative things in our lives, but if we stay single and are never held accountable, we are less likely to find that trigger.
Meaningful sex.
I think one of the reasons many people want to stay single is that they want to have a variety of experiences in their life, especially at a younger age. This is understandable, many of us have been there, myself included. We’ve got to “get it out of our system,” so to speak. Some people, though, have no desire to do this at all.
Either way, we find there is very little fulfillment or satisfaction that comes from physical encounters with people there is no real connection with. Is it fun? Of course. Will it give you what you’re looking for? Probably not.
When you are with one person for an extended period of time, you’re able to enhance your experiences together through learning about each other, their likes, and dislikes. Plus, it helps to strengthen your emotional connection as well.
You learn more about yourself.
Relationships don’t only afford us the opportunity to learn about our partner, but they also give us the chance to see ourselves in a clearer light. We may realize things we want to improve about ourselves, uncover desires we never knew we had, or really challenge ourselves to grow in ways we wouldn’t have if we were on our own.
You will always have a cheerleader.
Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive and motivated through hard times or discouragements. It may be 
something personal, professional, or both. The great thing about being with the right person for you is 
that they will be your beacon of light during the darkness. They will support and encourage you 
along your path, while you do the same for them.
They can help brighten your day in ways that you may not be able to do on your own. Plus, the encouragement you receive from the man or woman you love will have a different feeling than support from a family member or a friend.
The real beauty of a relationship is when you are two separate individuals, but are united as one. You have someone who loves and accepts you as you are today, but also motivates and encourages you 
to continue improving and becoming your best.
You have a built in support system and teammate in life. We should stop thinking of significant others as 
a “ball and chain” that drags us down, and start thinking of them as a hot air balloon that brings us to 
new heights we wouldn’t have seen before.
There is no better feeling than being loved.
As simple of a reason as there can be – but also the most powerful. The visit of the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, to Edo State,nwas on Saturday disrupted when some men, 
suspected to be aggrieved youths of the Peoples Democratic Party, pulled down some banners bearing the image of the First Lady, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the state capital.
Mrs. Jonathan was in the state to drum support from Edo women for her husband’s re-election.campaign.
It was learnt that the men climbed the fence where the banners were placed and began to pull them down as soon as it was time for the First Lady to deliver her address.
According to Punch ,Irked by what they termed to be an attempt to mar the visit of the President’s wife, some youths and policemen dressed in branded T- shirts, bearing the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria logo, accosted the men.
It was in the process of a brewing brawl that some policemen, drafted to the venue of the rally to provide security, whisked them away in a police vehicle.
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, said he had no doubt that the perpetrators were sympathisers of the All Progressives Congress.
He claimed that none of the youths who had turned out for the event would carry out the act, adding that the party would investigate further. Nehikhare said,
“I am sure they were APC people. No PDP youth will be aggrieved to the extent of pulling down the First Lady’s posters; every PDP youths love the First Lady.
“But I will investigate to find out and let you know tomorrow (Sunday).”
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Jonathan insisted that her husband would remain in office for anotherterm.

The wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Saturday insisted that her husband would remain in office for eight years to complete his two terms in office, despite the opposition.
Mrs. Jonathan, said this during the Peoples Democratic Party women rally, under the auspices of Women for Change and Development Initiative, in Benin, Edo State.
She was accompanied by national and state leaders of the party. 
Women, drawn from different support groups across the state had turned out for event as early as 9am. They, however, began to leave the 
stadium at about 1.30pm, when Mrs. Jonathanarrived at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the rally.
Unable to bare the scorching heat, two women fainted but were later revived by a medical team provided by the party.
A mild drama ensued shortly before the First Lady’s address, when two men, said to be aggrieved PDP youths, tore down some banners 
bearing the image of the President’s wife.
They were, however, whisked away by some security operatives at the arena.
Addressing the women, she said that the presidency had been occupied for eight years by other geopolitical zone and wondered why the South South should be denied the opportunity. 
She also noted that the Jonathan administration had performed creditably in various sectors, such 
as transport and education, and by her assessment, was satisfactory. 
Mrs. Jonathan described the present 
administration as a gender sensitive government, which had prioritised women development through the appointment of several women in key 
positions, the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme and the YouWin initiative.
She stressed that re-electing of her husband was an opportunity for Nigerian women to appreciate 
his good performance, adding that the opposition party was not dependable and had nothing to offer.

Rivers state has said that President 
Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples 
Democratic Party (PDP) are afraid of 
the outcome of the forthcoming 
general elections.
Amaechi who is also the Director-General, All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Organisation stated this in Port Harcourt during APC’s zonal campaign rally, recently.
“You know I used to be in PDP. For the first time, I can see real fear in their eyes, even the president is afraid. You can see that everybody is now gentle because the 
game is up,” Ibim Seminatari, Director of Communications of Rivers State APC Campaign Organisation, quoted Amaechi as saying in a statement.
“The sad part is that the police are 
arresting us every day but all these will be over in two weeks. So far, over 30 members of APC have been killed in recent times. No day passes without the killing of one APC member or the other but they will account for all their atrocities in due time.
“They cannot intimidate us forever. Let me tell you that my courage comes from kneeling down, praying and asking God for strength. This time in South-South and South-East, we will not write result.
We are going to vote and our votes will count and I am proud to be part of APC.
You must vote and stay there because members of PDP are magicians.”
According to her, the Rivers State 
Governor also described PDP as an 
atrocious party with unbelievable record of abuse and intimidation.
He also condemned the attack on his wife Judith by PDP members who waylaid her at Ahoada West during her campaign there.
Amaechi told the gathering that God has already told Nigerians who will be the next president but that person, definitely is not Jonathan.

Strange Owl Appears In Delta State Govt. House – SEE What Happened Next

Those working in the Delta State 
Government House, Asaba, Thursday 
scampered for safety, following the 
appearance of an Owl in one of the 
offices. The owl, according to a reliable source, perched on a table in the office when the office was opened by a lady working there, adding that the lady (name withheld) who was gripped with fear raised alarm which attracted others who were just trying to settle down for the day’s job at about 8 am.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the owl was flogged to death and set ablaze by the workers who saw its appearance as a sign of bad omen. He added that songs of praises and worship were sung to adore the Almighty God for 
the few persons who picked up courage and moved against the strange bird.
Speaking further, the source told 
Vanguard another lady (name withheld) who is also working in the Government House rushed in few minutes later and threatened that at least five persons 
would be killed to avenge the death of the owl, which she claimed to be hers.
Disclosing that the said lady hails from.one of the villages in Okpe, the source said;
“We have decided to leave her for 
God.”Whatever evil she planned to 
wreck in the office with the owl, would revert to her.”
Effort made to reach the lady who 
claimed ownership of the owl proved 
abortive at press time.
However, a source close to her, said 
“She was just joking; nobody can claim ownership of an owl.
“Do you really think anybody in his or 
her right senses will come out publicly to claim ownership of an owl and also threaten to kill five persons to avenge its death? It was a mere joke and that issue has been handled and settled, the source said, adding
 “We killed the owl, burnt it while drawing power from God Almighty who is the maker of the heaven and earth. And we joined our faiths together in setting the strange owl ablaze.
“Whatever evil plan it was meant to 
wreck in our office has been returned 
to the sender. We are untouchable”.
As at the time of filing this report, effort was still being made to reach the lady whose office the owl was found for comment on the matter. According to an online dictionary, an Owl is a nocturnal bird of prey that kills other creatures for food: appearing traditionally as warnings of doom and as symbol of wisdom.

Jonathan Taking Advantage Of Immigration Jobs Tragedy – APC

The All Progressives Congress has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of taking political advantage of calamities that 
have befallen Nigeria under his watch, saying giving N5m toeach family that lost a relative in the Immigration recruitment 
exercise after one year is not only belated but aimed at soliciting votes.
In a statement issued in Lagos on 
Saturday by its National Publicity 
Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the 
party wondered why it took thePresident one year to act on the promise he made to the families, adding that but for the forthcoming elections, the President would have simply ignored the families,
“in his usual style.””The truth is that this President was forced to act because of the elections.
Otherwise, why has it taken one year for the President to redeem his promise to the bereaved families? Why has his Administration not sanctioned those who sent innocent job seekers to their early graves after extorting them? Why is the Interior Minister,Mr. Abba Moro, 
who presided over the deaths, still in 
office, virtually dancing on the graves of those innocent youths?”Sunday, March 15th, will mark one year since those vibrant youths were lured to their deaths by a callous federal government that failed them in all ramifications, including the security of their lives and the assurance of their welfare, the raison d’etre of any government.
It is therefore utterly reprehensible, 
immoral and wicked for the same 
administration to seek to make political gains out of the needless tragedy,” said APC .
President Jonathan, “in his desperation for re-election, has also sought to take political advantage of other tragedies, including the Buni Yadi massacre of school children and the abduction of Chibok girls.”
After refusing to even visit the families of those school children in Buni Yadi and Chibok, the President suddenly woke up and startedsending delegations to meet with them, all this because he needs votes.
As a parent himself, how will the 
President feel if he had been so treated? Why must the President put his re- election over and above everything else, including the welfare and security of Nigerians? Is there no limit to desperation.”
It said Nigerians are keenly aware of the fact that this President has suddenly woken up from his deep slumber and become artificially hyperactive, making repeated visits to regions that he had neglected in the past six years and doling out hard currencies even at a time the Naira was taking a beating, all for election purposes.
”No one is fooled by the antics of a desperate President, and in the fullness of time, Nigerians will show President Jonathan and his cohorts that they are not impressed by his pretend governance,” APCsaid.
